the guilt

i had taken my eyes off of it

walked sideways into it, in some way

apologies can't go back and re-pave that pot-filled road

if i had stood, one second longer, out of where i should’ve

i would’ve had no other place to stand

the corners of my smile would’ve wrapped their warm-lipped-curves

down to the chin

the guilt remains a silent witness

to the eventual crash of

a bag, of bones

a sack, with a heart
